Flashings are specially profiled elements of the roof system, made of flat sheet metal, usually in the same colour as the roof covering. They combine two essential functions: aesthetic – which means hiding edges and connection points on the roof, including such critical areas as positive and negative slope joints, the areas around the chimney and roof windows, dormers and roof hatches – and protective. Thanks to the correct choice of shape and size of the flashings, the slope is better protected against driving rain, snow, or gusty winds.
The choice of flashings depends on the shape and specificity of the roof, which are fundamental to ensuring tightness, while matching the architectural style of the building (e.g., in a modern, minimalist shape or a more traditional, rounded one) will ensure proper aesthetics of the covering and complement its character.
In the past, flashings were made by hand directly on the roof, but today the market offers ready-made solutions for both universal use and specific roofing models; for example, we can buy a universal eaves flashing or one specially adapted to a specific roof tile model (such as STANDING SEAM panels, the REGLE model, or FLAT roof tiles).

Sheet metal flashings should be made of high-quality sheet metal and protected with a carefully selected protective coating, which affects their appearance and shields them from atmospheric conditions (such as excessive sunlight or moisture) and environmental factors (e.g., pollution, risk of mechanical damage) acting on the roof.
A sheet metal flashing must not be made of a lower-quality material than the roof covering. Just as with coatings used on steel roofing, polyurethane coatings offer the highest durability, polyurethane-polyester coatings slightly less, and polyester coatings the lowest. Furthermore, the size, shape, depth, and appearance depend on the type of covering (for instance, a profiled roof tile may require a different solution than a standing seam panel). By purchasing sheet metal flashings from the same manufacturer as your chosen roof covering, you can perfectly match them in terms of color and style. Additionally, installing the flashings and fitting them together carries a minimal risk of errors, especially when entrusted to an experienced roofing team.
