WOOLTECH (Wool) Eco – Wall sandwich panels – Mineral Wool – Exposed Fasteners

Mineral wool is a widely used component in building materials, enhancing their thermal and acoustic properties as well as their fire resistance. It works exceptionally well as the core material in sandwich panels. For projects that do not require particularly high energy efficiency or sound absorption performance, but where the structural load-bearing capacity is slightly lower, a more cost-effective alternative to standard sandwich panels is the use of panels with lower-density mineral wool—the WEŁNA EKO panels.

WOOLTECH EKO (economy) — lower density — lower costs!

WOOLTECH EKO (economy) — lower density — lower costs!

In addition to WOOLTECH Standard (wall) panels, our product line also includes wall panels with a reduced-density mineral wool core (Eco).

Thanks to our state-of-the-art technological facilities, the WOOLTECH Pruszyński Company product line (sandwich panels with a Mineral Wool core) also includes sandwich panels with a lower-density core. Panels from the WOOLTECH Eko line are available EXCLUSIVELY by special order, following consultation with the sales department.

What are Wełna Eko sandwich panels?

WEŁNA EKO sandwich panels (PWS2-MW EKO), like other panels with a second-generation mineral wool core, consist of two steel sheet claddings and a structural-insulating core. Unlike other sandwich panels in our product range, the WEŁNA EKO panel features a mineral wool core with a reduced density of 80 kg/m³. This solution significantly reduces the product’s unit weight, resulting in much lighter components.

The exterior cladding of the panels is made of galvanized steel sheet with a thickness ranging from 0.50 mm to 0.70 mm. They are coated with metallic (aluzinc) and organic coatings (glossy polyester and textured polyester, as well as PURLAK and PURMAT polyurethane), which provide enhanced resistance to mechanical damage, rust, and photoaging. Core-backed cladding panels are bonded during the production process using a two-component polyurethane adhesive.

Applications of WEŁNA EKO Sandwich Panels

WEŁNA EKO sandwich panels are used primarily in commercial construction, including the construction of industrial facilities, sports arenas, shopping centers, warehouses, and public buildings. In situations where a building requires more densely spaced load-bearing elements, sandwich panels with lower-density mineral wool will perform better than standard wall sandwich panels, significantly reducing construction costs.

They are most commonly used as:

  • Curtain wall
  • partition walls
  • load-bearing walls in small mobile refrigerated units, construction site support buildings, and utility buildings.

A wide range of colors and a variety of sandwich panel profiles (trapezoidal, micro-trapezoidal, corrugated, cassette, or flat) make it possible to construct buildings with high aesthetic value.

Advantages of WEŁNA EKO panels

Quick installation
Quick installation
The cost-effective coverage width of 1,150 mm allows for quick and easy assembly on various types of structures using appropriate through-fasteners
Ekonomiczność
Cost-effectiveness
Cost savings and efficiency on the construction site: mineral wool with a density reduced from 115 kg/m³ to 80 kg/m³ allows for cheaper construction, providing high fire resistance and insulation performance at a lower cost.
They are lighter, which means they are cheaper to transport, store, and perform assembly on.

WEŁNA EKO panels in our product lineup

The Pruszyński Company offers various types of sandwich panels, which differ in core thickness. There are as many as 8 models available:

PWS2-MW-EKO-100

PWS2-MW-EKO-120

PWS2-MW-EKO-140

PWS2-MW-EKO-160

PWS2-MW-EKO-180

PWS2-MW-EKO-200

PWS2-MW-EKO-220

PWS2-MW-EKO-240.

To ensure that the products retain their properties for as long as possible, the exterior and interior claddings of the panels should be cleaned using cleaning solutions with a chemical composition suitable for the specific coating, so as not to discolor the paint finish. We recommend reviewing the guidelines for storing and securing the panels during transport. Any damage to the coatings caused during assembly or transport should be protected and touched up with touch-up paint.

How is the WEŁNA EKO panel assembly performed?

The assembly of WEŁNA EKO panels must be based on the construction design, as they do not require such a dense spacing of joists and structural members. This allows for a significant reduction in the overall cost of the building’s load-bearing structure. The panels can be fastened to a steel or concrete substrate using appropriate through-fasteners (self-tapping), which are used to secure the panels to steel structures with a maximum wall thickness of 14 mm and a working thread diameter of 5.5 mm. For steel structures thicker than 14 mm and concrete structures, other fasteners may be used:

  • for steel substrates (thicker than 14 mm): special self-tapping fasteners with a suitably shaped working thread profile are recommended,
  • For concrete substrates: It is recommended to use special fasteners with an expansion element or self-tapping fasteners with a specially shaped working thread.

During assembly, it is important to use specialized power tools to drive the fasteners—that is, a screwdriver with a special head that ensures proper guidance of the fastener and a depth stop. The clamping force of the fastener should be adjusted so as not to deform the washer.

Dimensions of WEŁNA EKO panels

WEŁNA EKO wall sandwich panels have a total width of 1170 or 1020 mm and an effective width of 1150 mm or 1000 mm. In terms of length, it is not recommended to use panels shorter than 2.5 running meters; however, it is very important to select the maximum panel length, which depends on the chosen color of the protective coating (color groups according to the PN-EN 14509 classification ).

  • very light colors (Group I): up to 18 mb
  • light colors (Group II): up to 12 mb
  • dark colors (Group III): up to 9 mb.

Given that dark-colored panels in Group III are subject to significantly greater thermal loads than very light- and light-colored panels in Groups I and II, during the design phase, it is necessary to assess, based on the loads, which panel layout on the wall is feasible.
