Batten patches

Batten patches are metal components to which exterior cladding is attached; they are also used as a substitute for wooden battens during assembly of metal roof tiles or trapezoidal sheets. These battens are also used to level the roof surface on which metal roof tiles are to be installed, as well as to reinforce the roof’s structure and provide better Thermal insulation.

What are batten patches made of?

Batten patches are manufactured from galvanized or coated steel sheet with a thickness of 0.7 mm to 1.0 mm in S280 GD or S350 grades, depending on the application and structural requirements. Depending on the application, batten patches can come in various shapes and dimensions, such as rectangular or trapezoidal, as well as varying lengths and widths, depending on the type and size of the structural element being repaired.

Steel is characterized by high strength and resistance to mechanical damage. In addition, steel sheet is relatively easy to work with, which allows for precise cutting. Batten patches can be painted, which increases their corrosion resistance and extends their service life.

The Use of Batten Patches

Batten patches are most commonly used as:

  • structural elements to which exterior cladding is attached
  • Steel batten patches as a substitute for wooden battens during assembly of metal roof tiles or trapezoidal sheets

When used on a roof, the battens are placed on the surface of the structure, where they serve as a support for metal roof tiles, trapezoidal sheets, or other roofing materials. They are often used for roofing with metal roof tiles or corrugated sheets, as they allow for even distribution of the roofing material’s weight and prevent deformation.

Properties of Batten Patches

The most important properties of steel alloys include:

  • An omega-type steel channel is a structural element shaped like the letter “omega,” that is, it resembles the Greek letter “omega” (Ω).
  • It is used in construction as an element that aids in the assembly of roof coverings or facade sheets. These battens are placed on the surface of the structure and serve as a support for metal roof tiles, trapezoidal sheets, or other roofing materials.
  • Made of durable steel, which ensures its strength and weather resistance. It is also lightweight, making it easy to transport and perform assembly.
  • It is often used for roofing with metal roof tiles or corrugated sheets, as it allows the weight of the roofing material to be distributed evenly and prevents it from warping.
  • It is available in various sizes and thicknesses, allowing it to be tailored to individual needs and requirements.

What models of steel flat bars are available from the Blachy Pruszyński Company?

Our company offers the Omega model, which is available in three heights:

  • Omega 20
  • Omega 30
  • Omega 50

The minimum length of the profiles is 0.5 meters, and the maximum is 6 meters. Other lengths are determined on a case-by-case basis.

What does the assembly of batten patches look like?

The assembly of batten patches on a facade and roof usually consists of several steps:

  • Surface preparation – Before beginning assembly, prepare the surface where the battens will be mounted. The surface should be clean, dry, and free of any obstacles.
  • Assembly of battens on the facade – battens are installed vertically on the facade, usually 60–80 cm apart. The first batten is installed at the bottom, and subsequent battens are installed one above the other, all the way to the top of the facade. The battens are secured to the wall using dowels and screws.
  • Assembly of roof battens – On the roof, battens are installed horizontally, usually 30–50 cm apart. The first batten is secured at the edge of the roof, and subsequent battens are installed parallel to it, all the way to the roof ridge. The battens are secured to the roof using special brackets or screws.

It is important that the assembly of steel beams be performed professionally and in accordance with best construction practices, which will ensure the durability and stability of the structure.

Advantages of batten patches

Batten patches are in high demand on construction sites due to their advantages, which include:

  • durability and high resistance to weather conditions
  • easy assembly
  • high stiffness and strength
  • lightweight design
  • a perfectly flat grill surface.

Batten patches are available in various sizes and thicknesses, allowing them to be tailored to the investor’s individual needs and structural requirements.

Batten patches require regular maintenance, and how should it be performed?

Galvanized and aluzinc-coated batten patches do not require regular maintenance, but they must be protected from moisture at all costs. Therefore, we recommend that you review the transportation and storage guidelines available on our website in the product description. Polyester-coated battens should be inspected for potential damage to the coating during assembly, which could lead to gradual deterioration.

Are batten patches resistant to corrosion and other weather conditions?

Thanks to high-quality steel, as well as coatings such as galvanized steel or polyester, batten patches are highly resistant to weather conditions—including moisture that causes rust, high and low temperatures, and UV radiation. Polyester coatings are available in over a dozen colors from the RAL palette, allowing them to be used in applications where they may be visible and where aesthetics are important—such as on building facades.
