Sidewall flashing, also known as abutment flashing, is a technical solution used where the roof meets vertical elements of the building, such as walls, chimneys, or parapets. Its purpose is to seal these connections and prevent water from entering the structure. This flashing usually consists of two parts: the lower flashing (installed on the roof slope at the point of contact with the wall) and the upper flashing (fixed to the wall or chimney, often covered with a pressure bar). The entire assembly is sealed with silicone or special sealing tapes to maintain full tightness. They are most commonly made of galvanized metal sheets covered with protective coatings, which can even double their resistance to corrosion.
Sidewall flashing with a drainage channel is a dedicated flashing whose main function is to drain water from the area around chimneys or dormers and direct it onto the roof slope. We recommend its installation together with a matching counter-flashing.
