Storage of materials

Safe storage of building materials on the construction site

It would seem that nowadays there is no need to buy building materials in advance, because everything is available “immediately”. And it is usually the case. However, we must take into account unforeseen circumstances, and yet we would not like the construction of our dream home to be interrupted for a long time. That is why it is good to collect some materials on the construction site.

Building a house requires us to harvest not only the work of professionals, but to provide them with necessary materials for the time. It is worth considering the market much earlier and without rush to compare the offers of wholesalers and building warehouses. Maybe we will be able to buy, for example, a metal roof tile at a bargain price before the construction season? The purchase of building materials in advance is a good solution, because we are not addicted to transport dates, in addition, we will not be surprised by price increases that can significantly increase the cost of building a house. However, so that building materials do not destroy and lose their properties, we must store them properly and – which is no more important – to protect against theft. The result of neglect will unfortunately be purchased again.

How to store building materials in the open

The basic principle is – after unloading, building materials are stored 0.5 m from walls and fences and a minimum of 5 m from the workplace. It is forbidden to base them on Parans, buildings and poles of overhead lines. On dry, even and hard terrain we can store, among others Bricks, blocks, concrete blocks and tiles. In order not to be soaked in water, we must separate them from the ground and protect them against precipitation. Set the wall materials supplied on pallets and protected with foil. Place the wall and ceiling elements bought on pallets and put up to a maximum of 2.5 m high. Remember that wall and ceiling elements made of aerated concrete are best stored under the shelter. When storing them, the maximum number of layers is 8 and they should cross. We put cement and ceramic tiles in 2-5 layers at a stack of 250 pieces. Individual layers should be separated, e.g. with wooden spacers or straw, and covered with e.g. foil to protect the roofing against rain. At the construction site, we must also find space for various types of sands and gravels. We store them in the form of a prism, separated from each other so that they do not mix. On the other hand, steel pipes and shapes are the safest to store on pads between piles stuck in the ground or on the workbayals. We can also base prefabricated elements on a goat, but we should put them on concrete.

How to store building materials indoor

Some building materials should be stored under a roof. If there is no outbuilding on the construction site, we can put a garage made of sheet metal for the time of building a house – it is a fairly often used temporary solution. For example, sacks with lime, plaster, plaster or cement should be stored in ventilated rooms on pallets at least 15 cm above the floor arranged with a cross up to 10 layers of height. Also in rooms and on pallets, we store mineral wool (a maximum of 3 m in height, higher laying can cause adverse compression) and polystyrene (up to 4 packages of 10 pieces). Avoid storing these thermal insulation materials outside because they are sensitive to solar radiation, icing or precipitation. “Under the roof” we also store the metal roof tiles. Tin -tin coverage packages are the safest to store on supports with a minimum width of 10 cm and a height of 20 cm, arranged by a maximum of every 1 m. We can store packages on top of each other (maximum 3 packages), but only if we postpone them with slats. In addition, we store wooden elements in closed warehouses, as well as “wet” products, e.g. soil, plastering foundations, paints and adhesives. We store roofing felt rolls in a vertical position. We also store windows and doors in a vertical position.
