Advantages of PIRTECH sandwich panels in industrial buildings.

Cored panels, also known as sandwich panels, are construction materials consisting of three layers: two outer protective layers and a central insulating layer. They are currently one of the most popular and widely used materials in industrial construction. One might even go so far as to say that it is difficult to imagine industrial construction today without them.

What are PIRTECH sandwich panels, and what are the benefits of using them?

Laminated panels, also known as sandwich panels, are construction materials consisting of three layers: two outer protective layers and a middle insulating layer. The outer layers are usually made of metal, plastic, or another high-strength material, while the core can be made of various materials—polyurethane foam (PUR), polyisocyanurate (PIR), expanded polystyrene (EPS), or mineral wool. Among these, panels with a PIR foam core are the most commonly chosen, including PIRTECHpanels, which are manufactured by our company. Let’s take a closer look at the advantages of using them in industrial buildings.

What are the applications of PIRTECH sandwich panels in industrial buildings?

It’s hard to imagine construction without sandwich panels, especially when it comes to public buildings. They are extremely versatile and are widely used in industrial facilities, as well as in public buildings and commercial structures. Here are a few examples:

  1. Exterior and interior walls. These panels are ideal for constructing exterior and interior walls. They provide high thermal insulation, which helps maintain the proper temperature inside buildings. In large spaces, these panels can be used to create partition walls, allowing for flexible space planning in accordance with current production needs.
  2. Roofs. Thanks to their insulating properties and light weight, roof sandwich panels are often used as roofing material. They protect against excessive heat buildup in the summer and heat loss in the winter.
  3. Suspended ceilings. Lightweight sandwich panels can be used as suspended ceilings, which enhance the interior’s aesthetics and improve the building’s energy efficiency.
  4. Cold storage and freezer facilities. Due to their high thermal insulation properties, these panels are often used in the construction of cold storage and freezer facilities, where maintaining a constant, low temperature is essential.
  5. Agricultural facilities. Sandwich panels are also used in agricultural buildings, such as grain storage facilities, cattle barns, and chicken coops, where it is important to ensure appropriate storage and rearing conditions.

Thanks to their properties, sandwich panels are an indispensable material in modern industrial construction, enabling the rapid and efficient erection of durable structures.

Why are PIRTECH sandwich panels particularly recommended for industrial buildings?

These sandwich panels are particularly recommended for industrial buildings for several key reasons.

  1. Thermal insulation. Thanks to their rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam core, these panels offer excellent thermal insulation performance, which is extremely important in industrial buildings, where temperature control can significantly impact operating costs and the quality of stored products. We wrote more about the benefits of using sandwich panels for thermal insulation in this post [Sandwich Panels and Heating Cost Savings]
  2. Fire resistance. In terms of fire safety, panels with metal cladding offer high fire resistance, which enhances safety in industrial buildings, where the risk of fire may be higher due to manufacturing processes.
  3. Acoustics. Thanks to their core, sandwich panels offer excellent sound insulation properties, so they are highly effective at dampening noise. In this regard, panels with a mineral wool core perform slightly better than those with an expanded polystyrene or polyurethane foam core.
  4. Assembly. Thanks to their lightweight construction, PIR-core panels are easy to transport and quick to assemble, which speeds up the construction process and reduces costs. They can be assembled without the use of heavy equipment, which is practical on construction sites. Equally important is how easy they are to dismantle and perform assembly on.
  5. Durability. The materials used in the manufacture of PIRTECH panels are corrosion- and weather-resistant. This allows for assembly regardless of weather conditions and ensures long-term service life without the need for frequent maintenance.
  6. Aesthetics. The availability of panels in various thicknesses, sizes, and colors allows them to be tailored to individual design needs. This enables both aesthetic and functional solutions in buildings.
  7. Versatility. PIRTECH sandwich panels can be used in various structural elements, such as building envelopes (exterior walls and roofs), making them a versatile building material.

These properties of PIRTECH sandwich panels make them the optimal solution for modern buildings, combining energy efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.

How do PIRTECH panels minimize the risk of moisture damage in industrial buildings?

PIRTECH sandwich panels have several features that minimize the risk of moisture penetration. First and foremost, the outer layers of PIRTECH panels are often coated with protective layers that shield them from water and moisture. This provides additional protection for the panels against external weather conditions.

Another advantage is the polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam used in the core of the panels. It is characterized by very low water absorption (unlike panels with a wool core). This means that the core does not absorb moisture, which minimizes the risk of moisture forming inside the panel.

In addition, thanks to their high thermal insulation properties, PIRTECH panels help maintain the surface temperature above the dew point. This reduces the risk of water vapor condensation on the surface of the panels, which is a common cause of moisture buildup.

It’s also worth noting that sandwich panels are designed to ensure airtight joints between panels. Proper sealing prevents moisture from penetrating through the joints and protects against leaks.

Another issue is ventilation: In well-designed structures using PIRTECH panels, adequate ventilation is provided to allow moisture to be removed from inside the building, preventing it from accumulating.

Thanks to these features, sandwich panels are an effective solution in industrial construction, minimizing the risk of moisture and related problems, such as mold and corrosion.
