T35KD Smoke Curtain

T35KD fixed smoke curtains are secured along their upper edge to the support structure using self-tapping fasteners. The support structure must have the required fire resistance class, as determined by the building’s fire resistance class. The curtain is secured with at least two fasteners, and the metal sheets forming the curtain are fastened together using self-tapping fasteners.

The manufacturer’s technical requirements for assembly components are detailed in the T35KD assembly manual; however, the manufacturer permits the use of fasteners with fire resistance and mechanical properties that are at least as good as those recommended.

If the entire curtain is not rectangular in shape and the last sheet to be installed cannot be mounted in one piece, the sheets must be cut to size. Use electric shears with a rotating head to cut the sheets. After completing the assembly, be sure to clean the surface of any metal shavings, screws, etc. If the surface is damaged, make the necessary (spot) touch-ups as soon as possible using paint that matches the original color of the sheets. If a grinder is used, complaints will not be accepted.

NOTE: Regardless of the manufacturer’s installation recommendations, the facility designer is responsible for the design of the fasteners used to secure the curtain panels to the structure and for the design of the structure itself to which the curtain is to be attached. For T35KD smoke curtains manufactured by Blachy Pruszyński Company, assembly consists of two steps: welding the metal sheets together and attaching them to the structure.

NOTES

• The support structure for smoke curtains must have the required fire resistance, as determined by the fire resistance class of the building in which it will be installed
• When performing assembly of smoke curtains, use fasteners in accordance with the Classification Report (REPORT) and the assembly instructions (DOWNLOADS). Other fasteners with fire resistance and mechanical properties that are no less favorable may be used. The designer is responsible for the selection of fasteners.

A) Joining metal sheets together

1. Connect the metal sheets to each other using fasteners spaced 200 mm apart

B) Fastening Sheet Metal to Structures

• DELIVERY

T35KD fixed smoke curtains are supplied in the form of rectangular trapezoidal sheets with an effective width of 1.05 m and a length equal to the designed height of the curtain (up to 4.50 m). Sealing elements made of steel sheet, which provide a seal where the curtain sheet meets the trapezoidal sheet of the roof, as well as self-tapping fasteners for joining the curtain panels together, may also be supplied.

• TRANSPORT

If you are picking up the goods with your own vehicle, the vehicle must have an open loading platform that allows for easy loading and unloading. Galvanized and aluzinc sheets must be protected from getting wet at all costs!

• UNLOADING

“Manual” unloading should be performed by an adequate number of people—that is, enough to ensure that the panels are not shifted against one another, their side edges are not bent, and they are not stretched. Deformation of the panels during unloading and handling leads to subsequent problems with their proper assembly (gaps at the fasteners, which can cause the curtain to leak). The most appropriate method is to unload the panels in the manufacturer’s packaging using mechanical equipment.

• Sheets stored in bundles must not be kept outdoors or in areas exposed to moisture and fluctuating temperatures. Zinc and aluzinc coatings, particularly those that have not yet been exposed to the elements—and thus lack a protective layer—are sensitive to water condensation when air circulation is limited (sheets stored in stacks). Special attention should be paid to unloading in winter conditions and storage in heated warehouses. Due to significant temperature differences between the sheets, water condenses.
• Sheets that have become wet during transport or storage should be dried; then, separate the sheets with spacers that allow for free air circulation. After drying, galvanized (aluzinc) sheets should be inspected and coated with a layer of preservative oil.
• Sheets intended for long-term storage should be inspected and then coated with a layer of machine oil (applies to galvanized and aluzinc sheets) and, above all, protected from moisture (applies to all sheets).
• Failure to follow the above recommendations results in the relatively rapid formation (for galvanized and aluzinc sheets, this can take as little as a few days) of zinc corrosion — that is, white layers loosely bonded to the substrate that do not provide protection against corrosion.
• Coated sheets in their original factory packaging should not be stored for more than 3 weeks from the date of manufacture. After this time, the packaging must be opened, and the sheets must be separated with spacers that allow for free air circulation. The maximum storage period should not exceed 6 months from the date of manufacture, under penalty of voiding the Warranty.
• Protective films are used to provide additional protection for coated metal sheets against mechanical damage, deformation, and impacts that may occur during transportation, handling, or forming. Protective films never exempt the user from the obligation to properly protect the sheets during storage or from the harmful effects of chemical agents during the processing. It is recommended to remove the film from the finished profiles gradually, piece by piece, shortly before installing the wall and roof components on the building.
• Improper storage can make it difficult to remove the protective film and leave adhesive residue on the sheets.
